Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">During 2003–2012, 4481 major burns patients were treated in our burns center.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Mortality rate decreased during the study period, but nevertheless remained high.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">Flames and scalds caused most burns in those aged ≥21 and ≤20 years, respectively.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0025"> <label></label> <p id="par0025">Age, sex, burn size and full-thickness and inhalation injuries predicted mortality.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0030"> <label></label> <p id="par0030">ABSI was useful to predict mortality but overestimated mortality in older patients.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
