<abstract abstract-type="author-highlights" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Highlights</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005"> <list id="lis0005"> <list-item id="lsti0005"> <label></label> <p id="par0005">Genes with kinase activity are implicated in the pathogenesis of thyroid cancer. This provides the <italic>rationale</italic> for using KIs.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0010"> <label></label> <p id="par0010">KIs are the most suitable treatment for RAI-refractory DTC. To date, only sorafenib has been approved for this indication.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0015"> <label></label> <p id="par0015">Vandetanib and cabozantinib have been approved for advanced MTC, but their toxicity suggests a selective use.</p> </list-item> <list-item id="lsti0020"> <label></label> <p id="par0020">KIs did not impact on clinics of ATC.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </sec> </abstract>
