Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="author" id="abs0005"> <title id="sect0005">Abstract</title> <sec> <p id="spar0005">Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) is a benign, slow growing, expansile epithelial odontogenic tumor with odontogenic mesenchyme. The tumor occurs more commonly in young age group with higher frequency of occurrence in posterior mandible. The tumor may be radiolucent or radio-opaque depending on the amount and extent of calcification. Numerous treatment methodologies have been suggested ranging from surgical curettage to more invasive procedures like local excision. We present a rare case of large ameloblastic fibro-odontoma occurring in right posterior mandible in a 13-year-old child which was treated with surgical excision followed by placement of synthetic bone graft (β-tricalcium phosphate). The post-operative healing was found to be satisfactory over a period of two years and the lesion was not associated with any sign of recurrence.</p> </sec> </abstract>
