Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" id="tan12535-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p id="tan12535-para-0001">Toll‐like receptor 3 (TLR3) may be associated with T helper 1 immune response. This study aimed to investigate the role of a functional <italic>TLR3</italic> single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in sarcoidosis. We genotyped 220 Japanese patients with sarcoidosis and 140 controls for <italic>TLR3</italic> SNP rs3775291 to analyze its association with susceptibility to sarcoidosis and assessed its relationship to clinical features in 172 patients over 2 years. The <italic>TLR3</italic> rs3775291 genotype was not significantly associated with disease susceptibility. However, patients with cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) significantly more frequently had the TT genotype (<italic>p</italic> &lt; 0.01) or the T allele (<italic>p</italic> &lt; 0.05) than those patients without CS. We conclude that <italic>TLR3</italic> SNP rs3775291 may affect cardiac involvement in Japanese patients with sarcoidosis.</p> </abstract>
