<abstract abstract-type="toc"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <graphic position="anchor" id="ga" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgj412xf55" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" />In the absence of Ca²⁺ the polymers <italic>N</italic>, <italic>O</italic>-carboxymethyl chitosan, together with Na-polyphosphate and alginate, form random-coiled structures. Addition of Ca²⁺ transforms these polymers to durable implants.</p> </abstract>
