<abstract abstract-type="toc"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <graphic position="anchor" id="ga" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgj40vrmp7" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" />An asymmetric inverse-electron-demand hetero-Diels–Alder reaction between <italic>o</italic>-quinone methides and azlactones to generate potentially pharmacological active dihydrocoumarins has been achieved efficiently by using a chiral <italic>N</italic>, <italic>N</italic>′-dioxide–Sc(<sc>iii</sc>) complex as the catalyst.</p> </abstract>
