- <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Both Ba<sub>1.2</sub>Mn<sub>8</sub>O<sub>16</sub> (I) and Ba<sub>x</sub>Co<sub>y</sub>Mn<sub>8‐y</sub>O<sub>16</sub> (II) are prepared by reaction of stoichiometric amounts of Mn<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, Co<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>, and Ba(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>2</sub> in a KCl flux (alumina crucible, 1123 k, 72 h).</p> </abstract>
