Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Women often face challenges when balancing academic and familial responsibilities (Gilbert, <xref ref-type="link" rid="ceas66-bib-0007">2008</xref>; Trepal &amp; Stinchfield, <xref ref-type="link" rid="ceas66-bib-0029">2012</xref>). This phenomenological study explored women's (<italic>N</italic> = 10) experiences of becoming mothers during a doctoral program in counseling. The results highlight the importance of mentorship and other protective factors associated with a successful transition from student to mother.</p> </abstract>
