Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Pegylated interferon‐α (PEG‐IFN‐α or PEG‐IFN 2a and 2b)– and ribavirin (RBV)‐based regimens are the mainstay for treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1. <italic>IFNL3</italic> (<italic>IL28B</italic>) genotype is the strongest baseline predictor of response to PEG‐IFN‐α and RBV therapy in previously untreated patients and can be used by patients and clinicians as part of the shared decision‐making process for initiating treatment for HCV infection.
