<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="adma201470279-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>By taking full advantage of both the designable and thus tunable surface chemistry and the high extinction coefficient of gold nanoparticles, neurochemical changes during brain functions can be quantified and visualized simply through the development of new analytical principles and methods. This offers a straightforward route to a better understanding of the molecular basis underlying brain activities and is discussed in detail by L. Q.
