- <abstract abstract-type="main"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Six novel asymmetrical monomethine <named-content content-type="chemicalTechnology" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">cyanine dyes</named-content> were synthesized via the <named-content content-type="reactionType" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">condensation reaction</named-content> of 1‐butyl‐2‐(methylthio)benzo[<italic>c</italic>, <italic>d</italic>]indol‐1‐ium iodide and various 1, 5‐substituted indolenine salts under basic conditions. The dyes were characterized using UV–vis spectroscopy, fluorescence, <sup>1</sup>H NMR, <sup>13</sup>C NMR, and <named-content content-type="chemicalTechnology" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">mass spectrometry</named-content>; furthermore, the purity of these compounds was observed using LC/ELSD/MS.</p> </abstract>
