Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="adma201305083-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>A novel visible‐light‐absorbing dilute alloy, </bold> Ga(Sb<italic>_x</italic>)N_{1−<italic>x</italic>} is synthesized by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) for solar hydrogen production. Significant bandgap reduction of GaN, from 3.4 eV to 1.8 eV, is observed, with a low (2%) incorporation of antimonide, and the lattice expansion is in agreement with our first‐principles calculations. The band edges of Ga(Sb<italic>_x</italic>)N_{1−<italic>x</italic>} are found to straddle the water redox potentials showing excellent suitability for solar water splitting. <boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh5bnnfg" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
