- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>High luminescence</bold> is observed for an Eu<sup>2+</sup> ion sandwiched between two bulky cyclopentadienyl ligands, as described by S. Harder et al. in their Full Paper on <ext-link ext-link-type="doi" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">page 12272 ff.</ext-link> In contrast to [Eu(Cp*)<sub>2</sub>] (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl), which hardly shows luminescence, a quantum yield of 45% is found for the europocene [Eu(Cp<sup>BIG</sup>)<sub>2</sub>] (Cp<sup>BIG</sup>=(4‐<italic>n</italic>Bu‐C<sub>6</sub>H<sub>4</sub>)<sub>5</sub>‐cyclopentadienyl). Magnetic susceptibility measurements, and Mössbauer as well as EXAFS spectroscopy rule out possible oxidation‐state ambiguities for the lanthanide(II) metallocenes of Sm, Eu, and Yb.<boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgg36r47xn1" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
