<abstract abstract-type="main"> <title>ABSTRACT</title> <p>To celebrate World Soil Day 2014, this editorial summary and Special Issue draws together a number of the most significant contributions that have appeared in <italic>Earth Surface Processes and Landforms</italic> since 2010. As a group they show the increasing importance of interdisciplinary work in this area of overlap, and point to significant opportunities for future research development, particularly with respect to integrated modelling and interactions with climate change.
