Abstract:: <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Treatment of acetophenones (I) with iodine in DMSO results in the formation of isatins via a glyoxal intermediate which undergoes intramolecular addition of the amino group to the aldehyde moiety followed by DMSO oxidation.</p> </abstract>
