Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" id="voxs12150-abs-0001"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Human platelet antigens (HPAs) and their respective antibodies are responsible for different clinical conditions of alloimmune‐mediated thrombocytopenia. More recently, the involvement of HPA antibodies in rejection reactions to transplantation has been suggested. The detection of the causative HPA antibodies is therefore essential for the diagnosis and the implementation of preventive and therapeutic strategies. However, none of the available methods alone is presently able to detect all clinically relevant antibodies. In this review, we describe the old and new methods available for the detection of HPA antibodies, and discuss on their advantages and disadvantages.</p> </abstract>
