Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>A new molecular recognition motif between a water soluble pillar[10]arene (<bold>WP10</bold>) and 1, 10‐phenanthrolinium guest (<bold>G</bold>) in water is established. Mainly driven by the cooperativity of multiple electrostatic interactions, hydrophobic interactions, and π–π stacking interactions between <bold>WP10</bold> and <bold>G</bold>, this host–guest complex exhibits a high association constant in water, which is about 17 times higher than that between <bold>WP10</bold> and paraquat (<bold>PQ</bold>). Furthermore, this size selective host–guest complexation is employed to tune the lower critical solution temperature behavior of a random copolymer with <bold>PQ</bold> derivative pendants. <boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh30w8snrr" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
