<abstract abstract-type="short"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>What's already known about this topic?</bold> <list id="pd4463-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item id="pd4463-li-0001"> <p>Polyphenol‐rich foods have been associated to premature ductal constriction when consumed in the third trimester of pregnancy.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> <p> <bold>What does this study add?</bold> <list id="pd4463-list-0002" list-type="bullet"> <list-item id="pd4463-li-0002"> <p>Polyphenols revealed to induce vasoconstriction of the ductus arteriosus by inhibiting nitric oxide vasodilatation. Consumption of polyphenol‐rich foods in late pregnancy showed partial antioxidant effect by contributing to reduce lipid peroxidation. In contrast, NO‐mediated ductal vasoconstriction could also be associated to oxidative damage to proteins.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </abstract>
