- <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>An integrated direct carbon solid oxide fuel cell is studied with an <italic>in situ</italic> catalytic steam gasification of carbon by ceria, which can significantly improve the power density of the single cell. Using normal bubbling of the carrier nitrogen gas in temperature‐controlled water bath, the carbon gasification can be realized easily and further improved by addition of the catalyst (Ce, Ca, K). A peak power density as high as 213 mW cm<sup>–2</sup>, which is 3/4 of that in hydrogen fuel for the same cell, could be achieved via this approach. These results demonstrate this system highly promising for practical applications.</p> </abstract>
