- <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>An efficient iron(III) chloride catalyzed synthesis of highly substituted indolyltetrahydroquinoline derivatives from easily available starting materials, including indolylnitroalkenes, substituted anilines and various aldehydes is reported. The reaction utilized strong electron deficient dienophiles like indolylnitroalkene <italic>via</italic> a Povarov approach.</p> <p>The methodology shows good functional group tolerance and can be used to prepare fused indolo‐benzonaphthyridine derivatives.</p> <p> <boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"> <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh2qst2t9k" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /> </boxed-text> </p> </abstract>
