Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" id="tan12442-abs-0001"> <title>Abstract</title> <p id="tan12442-para-0001">The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) is committed to maintaining accurate human leukocyte antigen (HLA) data for each of the 11.5 million volunteer donors on the Be The Match Registry^®. Qualitative data analysis identified five population specific alleles suspect of being incorrectly characterized. Alleles evaluated were <italic>HLA‐A*24:03</italic> for the presence of <italic>A*24:23</italic> in Native Americans, <italic>A*30:02</italic> for the presence of <italic>A*30:10</italic> when <italic>B*41</italic> and <italic>DRB1*04:05</italic> were in the haplotype, <italic>DRB1*08:02</italic> for the presence of <italic>DRB1*08:11</italic> in Native Americans, and <italic>DRB1*15:01</italic> for the presence of <italic>DRB1*15:03</italic> in African Americans or <italic>DRB1*15:06</italic> in Asian donors. Discrepancy rate was 55%, 86%, 31%, 75%, and 13%, respectively. Utilizing the HLA typing date, race, and date an allele in question was described may provide a selection strategy leading to the consideration of additional unrelated donors for searching patients.</p> </abstract>
