- <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p> The intermetallic zinc compounds <italic>RE</italic><sub>6</sub>Pd<sub>13</sub>Zn<sub>4</sub> (<italic>RE</italic> = La – Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb) were synthesized from the elements in sealed niobium ampoules. They crystallize with the cubic Na<sub>16</sub>Ba<sub>6</sub>N (Dy<sub>6</sub>Fe<sub>16</sub>O) type structure, space group <italic>Im</italic><inline-formula><alternatives><tex-math notation="tex"><![CDATA[$\bar{3}$]]></tex-math><inline-graphic xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh2cqw5z55" mimetype="image" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></alternatives></inline-formula><italic>m</italic>. The samples were investigated by powder X‐ray diffraction and four structures were refined on the basis of single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction data. The striking structural motifs are palladium centered <italic>RE</italic><sub>6</sub> octahedra in a <italic>bcc</italic> arrangement. These octahedra are surrounded by a [Pd<sub>12</sub>Zn<sub>4</sub>] network. Magnetic susceptibility studies of Gd<sub>6</sub>Pd<sub>13</sub>Zn<sub>4</sub> show Curie‐Weiss behavior and an experimental magnetic moment of 7.75(2) μ<sub>B</sub> per Gd atom. Gd<sub>6</sub>Pd<sub>13</sub>Zn<sub>4</sub> orders antiferromagnetically at <italic>T</italic><sub>N</sub> = 10.5(1) K.</p> </abstract>
