Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Four new 5<italic>β</italic>, 19‐epoxycucurbitacins, kuguacins T–W (<bold>1</bold>–<bold>4</bold>, resp.), along with nine known cucurbitane derivatives, <bold>5</bold>–<bold>13</bold>, were obtained from the fresh fruit of <italic>Momordica chrantia.</italic> Structures of the new metabolites were elucidated as 5<italic>β</italic>, 19‐epoxy‐25‐hydroxycucurbitane‐3, 7, 23‐trione (<bold>1</bold>), 5<italic>β</italic>, 19‐epoxy‐3, 7‐dioxo‐23, 24, 25, 26, 27‐pentanorcucurbitan‐22‐oic acid (<bold>2</bold>), 5<italic>β</italic>, 19‐epoxy‐3<italic>β</italic>‐hydroxycucurbit‐24‐ene‐7, 23‐dione (<bold>3</bold>), and 5<italic>β</italic>, 19‐epoxy‐25‐hydroxycucurbit‐23‐ene‐3, 7‐dione (<bold>4</bold>), by extensive spectroscopic investigations, which were confirmed by a single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analyses in the case of compound <bold>4</bold>.</p> </abstract>
