Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Compositions of nominal formula, AgI_{1−<italic>x</italic>}Cl_{<italic>x</italic>} (<italic>x</italic>=0–0.25) were prepared by soft chemical method. The synthesized compositions were characterized by various physicochemical techniques. The studies revealed the formation of solid solution of AgCl in AgI up to 5 mol %. The composition AgI_0.95Cl_0.05 exhibited marginally higher conductivity than AgI. Electrochemical sensors were assembled using AgI and AgI_0.95Cl_0.05. Iodine sensing properties of these two potentiometric sensors were elucidated. Preliminary results show that I₂ can be sensed down to ∼10 vppm.</p> </abstract>
