<abstract abstract-type="main" id="mma1564-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p id="mma1564-para-0001">In this article, we give some results on the <italic>S</italic>‐essential spectra of a linear operator defined on a Banach space. Furthermore, we apply the obtained results to determine the <italic>S</italic>‐essential spectra of an integro‐differential operator with abstract boundary conditions in the Banach space <italic>L</italic>_{<italic>p</italic>}([−<italic>a</italic>, <italic>a</italic>] × [−1, 1]), <italic>p</italic> ≥ 1 and <italic>a</italic> &gt; 0.
