- <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>A novel 2, 3‐dichloro‐5, 6‐dicyano‐1, 4‐benzoquinone (DDQ)‐promoted intermolecular cross‐dehydrogenative coupling reaction of alkyl C(<italic>sp</italic><sup>3</sup>)H bonds not adjacent to heteroatoms with vinylic C(<italic>sp</italic><sup>2</sup>)H bonds has been developed. This new strategy provides a new, environmentally friendly, and efficient protocol for the synthesis of polysubstituted 1<italic>H</italic>‐indenes in a single step <italic>via</italic> a radical‐initiated two C(<italic>sp</italic><sup>2</sup>)C(<italic>sp</italic><sup>2</sup>) and C(<italic>sp</italic><sup>2</sup>)C(<italic>sp</italic><sup>3</sup>) bond formation process.</p> <p> <boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"> <graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh1fbrph3n" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /> </boxed-text> </p> </abstract>
