The image (artwork from Sana Sandler, Argonne National Laboratory) depicts a malonamide amphiphile that extracts metal ions from water into oil through complexation interactions, which cause nanoscale ordering. This aggregation is induced by complexation as well as long‐range interactions and drives metal‐ion separation processes for nuclear fuel reprocessing and refining technologies.
