<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>The misfit layered mixed oxide Ca<sub>3</sub>Co<sub>4</sub>O<sub>9</sub> is prepared by calcining a mixture of CaCO<sub>3</sub> and Co<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> (850 and 900 °C, 1 d each) followed by epicyclic milling and final sintering in O<sub>2</sub> (Pt crucible, 940 °C, 100 h).</p> </abstract>
