- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="smll201470111-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>A novel way of tuning the bandgap in a quantum dot (QD) is by lattice distortions, using 4 nm CdS QDs grown on a TiO<sub>2</sub> particle for example. The bandgap tuning (from 2.74 eV to 2.49 eV) of a CdS QD is achieved by H. M. Jang and co‐workers by suitably adjusting the degree of lattice distortion in the QD via manipulation of the tensile residual stresses.
