- <abstract abstract-type="main" id="aji12284-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <sec id="aji12284-sec-0001" sec-type="section"> <title>Problem</title> <p>Biological significance of increased number of leukocytes in ejaculate remains a subject of controversy. The aim of this research was to describe the morphological characteristics of the sperm elimination by leukocytes in <italic>in vivo</italic> and <italic>in vitro</italic> conditions using natural stimulator of the immune system—uropathogenic <italic>Escherichia coli</italic>, O75:HNT, isolated from semen.</p> </sec> <sec id="aji12284-sec-0002" sec-type="section"> <title>Method of study</title> <p>The study was performed on ejaculated spermatozoa from normozoospermic men with leukocytospermia (<italic>n</italic> = 10, <italic>in vivo</italic> experiment) or without leukocytospermia (<italic>n</italic> = 15, <italic>in vitro</italic> experiment). Morphological observations were performed using light and scanning electron microscopy.</p> </sec> <sec id="aji12284-sec-0003" sec-type="section"> <title>Results</title> <p>Sperm removal by active leukocytes mediated by traditional phagocytosis and generation of extracellular traps were observed in <italic>in vivo</italic> and <italic>in vitro</italic> experiments.</p> </sec> <sec id="aji12284-sec-0004" sec-type="section"> <title>Conclusion</title> <p>Our morphological data suggest that human germ cells activate leukocytes triggering both traditional<abstract abstract-type="main" id="aji12284-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <sec id="aji12284-sec-0001" sec-type="section"> <title>Problem</title> <p>Biological significance of increased number of leukocytes in ejaculate remains a subject of controversy.
