Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>We report advances in bistable 'electrofluidic imaging film' for e‐Paper, an approach which transposes colored ink in 10's of ms to the front of, or behind, a porous white film. The electrofluidic imaging film requires no pixel borders or ink‐microencapsulation, allowing &gt;90% reflective area. We have demonstrated that this reflective area, coupled with a proprietary engineered reflector, results in RGBW operation that provides SNAP (newsprint) quality color. Furthermore, this new approach is also the first electrowetting‐style front‐plane technology that can be integrated with simple non‐aligned lamination. We have also demonstrated microreplication and other low‐cost methods to fabricate the imaging film, and have begun creating sealed matrix‐addressed modules using LCD‐compatible processes.</p> </abstract>
