Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="smll201470106-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by myeloperoxidase (MPO) enzyme‐mediated peroxidation of chloride ions, acts as a critical microbicidal agent in response to inflammatory stimuli. As reported by J. S. C. Loo, Q. C. Zhang, and co‐workers on page 3560, a water‐soluble nano detection system using rhodaminemodified upconversion nanophosphor is developed for ratiometric UCL imaging of HOCl in living cells, which could provide a novel next‐generation imaging technique for bio‐imaging HOCl in living systems without background noise. <boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgh177vmxp3" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p> </abstract>
