The quest to identify and restore it led to a re‐evaluation of the evolution of the modern‐day ophthalmoscope and a re‐examination of the life and contributions of its inventor, the Norwegian ophthalmologist Hjalmar August Schiøtz.</p> </sec> </abstract>
