Skeletal body plan of the Atlantic mudskipper (<italic>Periophthalmus barbarus</italic>) from a lateral view. The mudskipper uses its fish feeding apparatus to successfully feed in the terrestrial environment. Each color represents a unit of fused or otherwise firmly interconnected ossified structures.
