Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="main"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <sec id="ardp201400058-sec-0001" sec-type="section"> <p>A series of novel 2‐(diaryl methanone)‐<italic>N</italic>‐(4‐oxo‐2‐phenyl‐thiazolidin‐3‐yl)‐acetamides were synthesized by various Schiff bases of (4‐benzoyl‐phenoxy)‐aceto hydrazide with thioglycolic acid. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR, ¹H NMR, mass spectra, and C, H, N analysis. Further, all the synthesized compounds <bold>9a</bold>–<bold>n</bold> were evaluated for xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibition and antioxidant properties. Among all the tested compounds, <bold>9f</bold>, <bold>9m</bold>, and <bold>9n</bold> demonstrated potent XO inhibition of 52, 76, and 26%, respectively, compared to the standard drug allopurinol, which is evident from <italic>in vitro</italic> and <italic>in silico</italic> analysis. On the other hand, compounds <bold>9c</bold>, <bold>9d</bold>, and <bold>9k</bold> exhibit potent antioxidant properties.</p> </sec> </abstract>
