- <abstract abstract-type="main" id="jfb12426-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p id="jfb12426-para-0001">This study tested whether eutrophication could influence life‐history traits of a cyprinid, <italic>Chanodichthys erythropterus</italic>, in 10 Chinese lakes. Using the von Bertalanffy growth model, the asymptotic length (<italic>L</italic><sub>∞</sub>) and the growth performance index (<italic>I</italic><sub>GRO</sub>) were significantly affected by eutrophication. The gonado‐somatic index (<italic>I</italic><sub>G</sub>) and relative fecundity (<italic>F</italic><sub>R</sub>) were significantly lower in mesotrophic lakes than in eutrophic and hypertrophic lakes. These results indicate that increasing eutrophication affects the life‐history tactics of a freshwater fish.</p> </abstract>
