<abstract abstract-type="main" id="tog12101-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <sec id="tog12101-sec-0001" sec-type="section"> <title>Key content</title> <p> <list id="tog12101-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Headaches in pregnancy and the postnatal period are common and usually benign but can herald intracranial catastrophe.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Assessment of headache in pregnancy is an essential skill for obstetricians and general practitioners.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Pregnancy can alter migraine aura and may trigger attacks of aura without a headache.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Headache may be the only symptom of cerebral venous thrombosis.
