- <abstract abstract-type="main"> <title>ABSTRACT</title> <sec id="jogn12463-sec-0010" sec-type="section"> <title>Objective</title> <p>To examine the specific barriers to mothers' realization of social support during the first‐year postpartum.</p> </sec> <sec id="jogn12463-sec-0020" sec-type="section"> <title>Design</title> <p>A qualitative approach in which social support data were analyzed thematically.</p> </sec> <sec id="jogn12463-sec-0030" sec-type="section"> <title>Setting</title> <p>An urban medical center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.</p> </sec> <sec id="jogn12463-sec-0040" sec-type="section"> <title>Participants</title> <p>Thirty‐one women who had given birth in the year prior to study enrollment were recruited through posted flyers at multiple community sites.</p> </sec> <sec id="jogn12463-sec-0050" sec-type="section"> <title>Methods</title> <p>Data were collected during three focus groups.
