- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en" id="macp201470045-abs-0001"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>Front Cover</bold>: n‐Octadecane phosphate, a self‐assembling molecule, is synthesized and used to modify the surface of carbon nanofibers (CNFs). At room temperature, the mechanical properties of a polyimide incorporating these treated CNFs are remarkably improved over those of a similar composite incorporating untreated fibers. The tribological properties are also improved. This is shown to be related to the better dispersion of the treated fibers and the superior interfacial adhesion introduced.
