- <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Reaction of the rigid ligand 2, 4, 5, 6‐tetrachloro‐1, 3‐benzenedicarboxylic acid (1, 3‐H<sub>2</sub>BDC‐Cl<sub>4</sub>) with copper(II) nitrate in different solvent systems afforded two new complexes {[Cu(1, 3‐BDC‐Cl<sub>4</sub>)(DMF)] (H<sub>2</sub>O)}<italic><sub>n</sub></italic> (<bold>1</bold>) and {[Cu(1, 3‐BDC‐Cl<sub>4</sub>)(H<sub>2</sub>O)<sub>3</sub>] (dioxane)<bold>·</bold>(H<sub>2</sub>O)}<italic><sub>n</sub></italic> (<bold>2</bold>), which were fully characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, as well as single crystal and powder X‐ray diffiraction techniques. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction reveals that complexes <bold>1</bold> and <bold>2</bold> crystallize in different space groups <italic>P</italic>2<sub>1</sub>/<italic>m</italic> and <italic>Pbca</italic>, respectivly. Compound <bold>1</bold> shows a two‐dimensional (2D) (4, 6)‐connected layered network constructed by the connectivity between one‐dimensional (1D) [–Cu–DMF–COO–]<italic><sub>n</sub></italic> chains and tetrachlorinated backbones of 1, 3‐BDC‐Cl<sub>4</sub>, which is further assembled to generate a three‐dimensional (3D) supramolecular framework through intermolecular O–H<bold>···</bold>O and O–H<bold>···</bold>Cl hydrogen‐bonding interactions.
