- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>In this chemical puzzle</bold> fluoromethyldimethylamine represents a versatile reactant for the synthesis of electron‐deficient, functionalized phosphates. Thus, the oxidative addition of the reagent to (C<sub>2</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub><italic>n</italic></sub>PF<sub>3−<italic>n</italic></sub> (<italic>n</italic>=1–3) selectively affords zwitterionic [(C<sub>2</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub><italic>n</italic></sub>F<sub>5−<italic>n</italic></sub>P(CH<sub>2</sub>NMe<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>NMe<sub>2</sub>)] (<italic>n</italic>=1–3) in good yields. The course of the reaction involved the phosphoranide [P(C<sub>2</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub>3</sub>F]<sup>−</sup>, which was evidenced independently. Treatment of [(C<sub>2</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub>3</sub>F<sub>2</sub>P(CH<sub>2</sub>NMe<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>NMe<sub>2</sub>)] with aqueous sodium hydroxide gave rise to the formation of the phosphate Na<sup>+</sup>[(C<sub>2</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub>3</sub>F<sub>2</sub>P(CH<sub>2</sub>NMe<sub>2</sub>)]<sup>−</sup>. The nucleophilic nitrogen atom in the phosphates [(C<sub>2</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub><italic>n</italic></sub>F<sub>5−<italic>n</italic></sub>P(CH<sub>2</sub>NMe<sub>2</sub>)]<sup>−</sup> allows the synthesis of several novel functionalized perfluoroalkylfluorophosphates.
