- <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>Al atoms are doped into Hf sites in HfO<sub><italic>x</italic></sub> nanoparticles supported on carbon black to incorporate O defects without decreasing the Hf valence. The oxygen reduction reaction activity is enhanced by the Al doping, and Al atoms are stable following the N doping into the O sites and accelerated degradation tests involving 20 000 potential cycles.</p> </abstract>
