Abstract

<abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>The front cover picture shows</bold> the uptake of two different organometallic gold(I) complexes into a tumor cell and their interaction with molecular protein targets, which are relevant for cancer chemotherapy. The complexes consist of a gold(I) central atom, a <italic>N</italic>‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) and a phosphane ligand. Depending on the respective residues on the phosphane, the activity of the seleno‐enzyme thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) or the zinc‐finger enzyme poly(ADP‐ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP‐1) is efficiently inhibited. This leads to significant effects on tumor cell proliferation and makes such organometallics promising candidates for anticancer drug development.
