- <abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title>Abstract</title> <p>DNA is a very useful molecule for the programmed self‐assembly of 2D and 3D nanoscale objects.<xref ref-type="link" rid="bib1">1</xref> The design of these structures exploits Watson–Crick hybridization and strand exchange to stitch linear duplexes into finite assemblies.<xref ref-type="link" rid="bib2">2</xref>–<xref ref-type="link" rid="bib4">4</xref> The dimensions of these complexes can be increased by over five orders of magnitude through self‐assembly of cohesive single‐stranded segments (sticky ends).<xref ref-type="link" rid="bib5">5</xref>, <xref ref-type="link" rid="bib6">6</xref> Methods that exploit the sequence addressability of DNA nanostructures will enable the programmable positioning of components in 2D and 3D space, offering applications such as the organization of nanoelectronics, <xref ref-type="link" rid="bib7">7</xref> the direction of biological cascades, <xref ref-type="link" rid="bib8">8</xref> and the structure determination of periodically positioned molecules by X‐ray diffraction.<xref ref-type="link" rid="bib9">9</xref> To this end we present a macroscopic 3D crystal based on the 3‐fold rotationally symmetric tensegrity triangle<xref ref-type="link" rid="bib3">3</xref>, <xref ref-type="link" rid="bib6">6</xref> that can be functionalized by a triplex‐forming oligonucleotide on each of its helical edges.</p> </abstract>
