<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en" id="bjd12658-abs-0002"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>What's already known about this topic?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd12748-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a significant comorbidity of psoriasis.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Physical disability, cardiovascular comorbidities, psychological issues, and a generally poor quality of life negatively impact many to most patients with PsA.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Several tools have been developed to aid in PsA diagnosis and assessment.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>A large body of work has been devoted to researching factors contributing to PsA and developing targeted biologic therapies.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> <p> <bold>What does this study add?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd12748-list-0002" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Dermatologists are in a position to recognize the early signs of PsA and therefore can be instrumental in achieving the goal of early initiation of adequate therapy.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>Early intervention may also help slow disease progression and improve patient outcomes.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>This review may be used by dermatologists as an educational guide on the pathogenesis, screening, diagnosis, comorbidities, existing treatments and emerging therapies for PsA.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </abstract>
