- <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en" id="bjd12721-abs-0002"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>What's already known about this topic?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd12721-list-0001" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Papular pruritic eruption (PPE) of HIV is common in HIV‐infected populations living in the tropics.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>PPE is characterized by symmetrically distributed itchy papules, worst on the extremities, with similar microscopic findings to insect bites or stings.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> <p> <bold>What does this study add?</bold> </p> <p> <list id="bjd12721-list-0002" list-type="bullet"> <list-item> <p>Persistent or recurrent PPE in antiretroviral therapy (ART)‐treated persons is associated with greater HIV RNA load at ART commencement but not during treatment.</p> </list-item> <list-item> <p>No association was found with CD4 count, CD4 gains and T‐cell activation markers.</p> </list-item> </list> </p> </abstract>
