<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Patients with suspected spinal disease may present with a range of signs, from the vague to acute symptoms that may require emergency management. Much can be ascertained from clinical and neurological examinations. Assessment with some simple tests can reveal the probable disease, the part of the nervous system affected, the severity of the condition and the prognosis. The majority of patients will have an excellent outcome with appropriate management.</p> </abstract>
