<abstract abstract-type="main" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p>Endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery are considered 'standard' practice in human healthcare. Veterinary practitioners are now starting to appreciate the benefits of these minimally invasive procedures in everyday practice (reduced tissue trauma, minimal postoperative pain and faster recovery times), and the endoscopist benefits from improved magnification, illumination and visualisation of areas that were previously considered difficult or impossible to access, without resorting to traditional surgical interventions.</p> </abstract>
