- <abstract abstract-type="graphical" xml:lang="en"> <title> <x xml:space="preserve">Abstract</x> </title> <p> <bold>Nanoparticles show properties</bold>, which are qualitatively and quantitatively different from those seen at the macro‐ and micro‐scales. One very important but underexplored area relates to the surface energy of the nanoparticles, which increasingly dominates the nanoparticle thermodynamics as the particle size shrinks.
