The MOF exhibits luminescent sensing with preference towards Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions over Sm3+ and Dy3+ ions. Moreover, it represents a potential recyclable luminescent probe for the sensitive detection of nitrobenzene through fluorescence quenching.<boxed-text content-type="graphic" position="anchor" orientation="portrait"><graphic position="anchor" mimetype="image" xlink:href="ark:/27927/pgg4srq5fmp" orientation="portrait" xlink:type="simple" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" /></boxed-text></p>
